Olin Rocketry

Purpose

Rocketry is a project team run by students at Olin College to develop the necessary skills to succeed in the Aerospace industry.

Olin Rocketry Montage

In Rocketry we design, build, and launch rockets! We aim to build an aerospace community at Olin where we have talks from industry professionals, masterclasses on different aerospace topics, and bring together partnerships with the Wellesley and Babson campuses. We are former competitors in the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) at Spaceport America, but now pursue our own R&D! We are working towards making our own full-custom rockets from carbon fiber layups to avionics. We hope to work towards a launch culminating in the Karman line (100 km altitude).

Since being founded in 2017, we have developed a number of rockets with different purposes and capabilities.

Rocketry is committed to developing its own set of engines through a rigorous research & development program.

Our electrical team consists of electrical and software engineers that design, build, and test our avionics system in house.

Our structures team consists of mechanical engineers that design, build, and test composite airframe parts while simultaneously managing the overall rocket assembly.

Our payload team consists of multi-disciplinary engineers that design, build, and test our scientific payloads in preparation for our launch at the IREC competition.
